Falkland Islands – Gentoo

Gentoo penguin

Gentoo, they’re my favorite penguins, red beaks, red feet, and cute chicks. They look like “typical” penguin soft toys or “Linux penguins”.

Pingwin bia艂obrewy by艂 moim ulubionym gatunkiem pingwina. No i oczywi艣cie Linux…

Falkland Islands – Plover

Two-banded plover
Two-banded plover聽 (Sea Lion Island)

The Falklands are like a paradise to everyone who loves birds. Today, I want to show you tiny two-banded plover. Doesn’t it look like someone wearing a brown beret?

Falklandy s膮 rajem dla os贸b zafascynowanych ptakami. Na zdj臋ciu malutki ptaszek – sieweczka patago艅ska.

Falkland Islands – Oystercatcher

Oystercatchers
Oystercatcher

Oystercatcher is one of my favorite flying birds, especially Eurasian oystercatcher that I’ve often met in the Netherlands. On the Falklands, there are two kinds of oystercatchers: Magellanic (see today’s picture) and black oystercatcher (completely black).

________________________________________________________________

Ostrygojady to jedne z moich ulubionych lataj膮cych ptak贸w, szczeg贸lnie ostrygojad zwyczajny, kt贸rego cz臋sto spotyka艂am w Holandii. Na Falklandach mo偶na spotka膰 dwa rodzaje: jak te na zdj臋ciu podobne do zwyczajnego i kompletnie czarny ostrygojad.

Falkland Islands – Lichens

Lichens
Lichens聽 (Saunders Island)

One day on a tiny island, I was sharing a house with a British couple, and they were fascinated about plants. They told me a lot about lichens, and showed many pictures; so the next day I was hiking, there are some hills on the Falklands (really!), and was enjoying the colorful lichens that I found.

Na jednej z wysepek na Falklandach spa艂am w malutkim domku, razem z par膮 Brytyjczyk贸w. Oboje byli zafascynowani ilo艣ci膮 ro艣lin jakie znale藕li na wyspie; opowiadali du偶o o porostach i pokazywali mi zdj臋cia. Nast臋pnego dnia chodz膮c po g贸rkach, opr贸cz podziwiania widok贸w i zwierzak贸w zachwyca艂am si臋 kolorowymi porostami, kt贸rych formacje przybiera艂y dziwne kszta艂ty.
Warto czerpa膰 inspiracje od innych i inspirowa膰!

Falkland Islands – King couple

King couple
King couple聽 (Volunteer Point)

It may be difficult to spot their black eyes on their black head, at least the yellow parts on their neck are easily to be seen. Have you realized that some of the kings have darker yellow-orange spots than the others? And also the size of them differs a bit. Based on it you can say which are adults and which are still juveniles.

Czy zauwa偶yli艣cie, 偶e szyje niekt贸rych pingwin贸w kr贸lewskich s膮 ciemniejsze – bardziej pomara艅czowe? Rozmiar tego 偶贸艂to-pomara艅czowego obszaru te偶 bywa r贸偶ny.

Falkland Islands – Moulting

Moulting
Moulting聽 (Volunteer Point)

Sometimes you may think that these penguins are proud and really behave like kings, but when they’re moulting they are just ridiculous. Especially when the old feather covers only their head. What do you think about a penguin fluffy like that? Exactly, adorable!

Ale widok pierz膮cych si臋 pingwin贸w mo偶e rozbawi膰 ka偶dego. Cz臋sto stare pi贸rka pokrywaj膮 tylko cze艣膰 cia艂a, np. maj膮 艣mieszn膮 czupryn臋 na g艂owie, albo wygl膮daj膮 jakby by艂y ubrane w “futrzan膮” kamizelk臋.

Falkland Islands – 3 kings

3 kings
3 kings聽 (Volunteer Point)

It was raining so badly when I went to the Volunteer Point with its big colony of the king penguins. Completely wet and freezing I was walking around with elegant kings.

________________________________________________________________

Jednego dnia wybra艂am si臋 do miejsca zwanego Volunteer Point aby zobaczy膰 koloni臋 pingwina kr贸lewskiego. Niestety pogoda by艂a fatalna, strasznie pada艂o ca艂y dzie艅 do tego by艂o bardzo zimno i wia艂 tak silny wiatr, 偶e trudno by艂o mi usta膰 w miejscu, a robi膮c zdj臋cia my艣la艂am o tym, 偶e zn臋cam si臋 nad moim aparatem. Kompletnie przemoczona i zmarzni臋ta spacerowa艂am z pingwinami i to z u艣miechem na twarzy. Czego si臋聽nie robi dla pingwin贸w 馃槈

Falkland Islands – Kissing

Kissing albatrosses
Kissing albatrosses聽 (Saunders Island)

The same as with the penguins, you can sit down on the grass close to the albatrosses and simply observe their beauty. I was impressed each time while watching how they stretch their great wings and then fly above my head.

________________________________________________________________

By艂am pod wra偶eniem za ka偶dym razem gdy rozprostowa艂y skrzyd艂a i lata艂y nad moj膮 g艂ow膮. Mog艂abym je obserwowa膰 godzinami.

Falkland Islands – Albatross

Albatross (Saunders Island)
Albatross聽 (Saunders Island)

On the Falklands, you can get very close to albatrosses and usually they’re not really scared of you. Especially when you’re alone. The situation may be a bit different when you travel in a big group like the ones of cruises to Antarctica. This beautiful albatross wasn’t afraid of me at all. At the end it can fly, we cannot…

________________________________________________________________

Falkland Islands – Seals

Seals
Seal (Sea Lion Island)

On the Sea Lion Island, as the name says, you can meet Southern sea lions, but also seals like this one. Be careful while walking, they look like huge stones when they’re sleeping. It’s really easy to step on them, and trust me, you don’t want to do it!

________________________________________________________________

Na wyspie Sea Lion, mo偶na spotka膰 uchatk臋 patago艅sk膮 (otaria) oraz s艂onia morskiego po艂udniowego. Le偶膮c na pla偶y wygl膮daj膮 cz臋sto jak wielkie kamienie! Kilka razy zdarzy艂o mi si臋 podej艣膰 zbyt blisko, poniewa偶 zapatrzy艂am si臋 na pingwiny… Na szcz臋艣cie “kamienie” spa艂y.
