Norway – Magical street

Magical street in Oslo
Magical street in Oslo

How do you like this picture? I called it “magical street”. Even while walking there, it’s not difficult to have the impression we’re in a magical place. Maybe it’s just snow, trees, and lanterns, but that’s how it is – the right composition of simple things can create wonderful atmospheres.

__________________________________________________________

Jak Wam si臋 podoba dzisiejsze zdj臋cie? Nazwa艂am je “magiczna ulica”. 馃檪 Spaceruj膮c tamt臋dy mia艂am wra偶enie jakbym przenios艂a si臋 w magiczny 艣wiat.

Norway – Benches covered by snow

Benches covered by snow in Oslo
Benches covered by snow in Oslo

One of my typical winter pictures are benches covered by snow. Do you also like to photograph them?
I like the most benches hidden deep in parks, when nobody uses them for a long time, and then snow piles up very high. The benches from today’s picture are located at the main shopping street in Oslo called Karl Johans gate, so I’m pretty sure people were using them a day earlier. That’s why there’s not so much snow. Well, enough for me to really enjoy the scenery!

Jedno z moich typowych uj臋膰 zimowych, to 艂awki pokryte grub膮 warstw膮 艣niegu.

Norway – Oslo

Oslo, Norway
Oslo, Norway

Welcome to the Kingdom of Norway.

In this January, I decided to search for a real winter destination with lots of snow, thus Norway, and especially very north Norway, was my goal. I found what I was searching for and it was wonderful, but let me come back to it in a few days. First, I want to share with you some of my impressions from Oslo.

I spent 2 nights in a lovely, built in typical Scandinavian style, Hotel Scandic Gardermoen, that proves high quality doesn’t have to be extremely expensive in Norway. You will have there a nice breakfast (with typical specialties from Norway) at a cosy fire place. And you can even buy a nice painting. Take a walk around the hallways of the hotel, you may find among the many paintings the one you like.

I had a very intensive day of sightseeing Oslo. Wasn’t extremely cold ;-), but it was snowing almost all the time. I guess sunny, summer Oslo looks much better in pictures, but winter time is also not bad! I think, many people have the impression it’s extra cold and dark there in winter, but it’s not true! When I visited Oslo, temperature was around -5 Celsius with lots of snow. Sun rises around 9 a.m., and sunset was around 4 p.m., so it’s also not so much different from many European countries that time.
It doesn’t sound so scary, does it?

Witajcie w Kr贸lestwie Norwegii.

W styczniu, postanowi艂am poszuka膰 prawdziwej zimy, st膮d Norwegia by艂a celem mojej podr贸偶y.

St膮d przyznaj臋, 偶e letnie, s艂oneczne Oslo, prezentuje si臋 lepiej na zdj臋ciach, ale zima te偶 jest pi臋kna!
Wydaje mi si臋, 偶e wiele os贸b wr臋cz boi si臋 odwiedzi膰 Norwegi臋 zim膮, ze wzgl臋du na niskie temperatury. Podczas mojej wizyty, by艂o oko艂o -5 C, wi臋c mniej wi臋cej tyle samo stopni, co w wielu innych europejskich miastach w styczniu. Wsch贸d s艂o艅ca by艂 oko艂o 9 rano, a zach贸d oko艂o 16, czyli te偶 “typowy, zimowy dzie艅”.

Norway – Introduction

Flying in Norway
Flying in Norway

In February, I want to show you winter pictures. I wanted to keep sunny places during winter, but a few weeks ago I visited Norway and fell in love with its magical winter.

If you don’t like winter or feel already tired of it, I’ll try to convince you in 2 ways.
First, snow may be really lovely and offers so much fun (wait for more pictures in February – they’ll prove it!).
Second, if the first point doesn’t work, you know, in some places there is polar night, so people don’t see the Sun for a few months. When was the last time you saw the Sun?

Let’s focus on Norway. Have you been to Norway, especially in winter? What comes to your mind when you think about Norway?
I think about fjords, amazing nature and comparably high prices… Scandinavia is not a cheap destination, but there is something relatively cheap about it. From many places in Europe you can find cheap flights to Oslo, and then flying from Oslo to other farther Norwegian towns is also relatively inexpensive!

If you want to use Oslo just as stopover, it’s a good idea! You can stay in one of the hotels nearby the airport. I can recommend you Comfort Hotel RunWay that’s just a few minutes by shuttle bus from Oslo Airport (Gardermoen).
Actually, it’s also a great place for business travelers. Comfort Hotel RunWay is located together with Clarion Hotel & Congress Oslo Airport, and The Qube (new convention center); they all can accommodate almost 10 thousands people. The Comfort Hotel RunWay comprise a very modern with the typical Norwegian style. Expect lovely colored and wood lining hallways and guest rooms.

W lutym, dla odmiany, poka偶臋 Wam zimowe zdj臋cia. Pocz膮tkowo, zamierza艂am w zimowe miesi膮ce pokaza膰 kilka s艂onecznych miejsc. Jednak kilka tygodni temu, wybra艂am si臋 do Norwegii, gdzie zimowe krajobrazy skrad艂y moje serce.

Je偶eli nie lubicie zimy i ju偶 macie jej do艣膰, to mimo wszystko, spr贸buj臋 Was do niej przekona膰 na dwa sposoby.
Po pierwsze, 艣nieg mo偶e by膰 magiczny i zapewnia mn贸stwo frajdy (poczekacie na wi臋cej lutowych zdj臋膰 – powinny Was przekona膰).
Kiedy ostatnio widzieli艣cie s艂o艅ce?

Skupmy si臋 na Norwegii. Byli艣cie w Norwegii, szczeg贸lnie zim膮? Co przychodzi Wam na my艣l gdy my艣licie o Norwegii?
Mi Norwegia kojarzy si臋 z fiordami, pi臋kn膮 przyrod膮 i do艣膰 wysokimi cenami…

Bez problemu znajdziecie hotel w pobli偶u lotniska. Polecam Wam Comfort Hotel RunWay, do kt贸rego, w kilka minut, dowiezie Was autobus z lotniska Oslo Gardermoen.
Ten hotel, r贸wnie偶 idealnie nadaje si臋 gdy podr贸偶ujecie s艂u偶bowo. Comfort Hotel RunWay jest usytuowany razem z Clarion Hotel i Congress Oslo Airport oraz The Qube. Wszystkie razem oferuj膮 wiele miejsc noclegowych i sali konferencyjnych r贸偶nych rozmiar贸w.

Cuba – Final impression

Havana, Cuba
Havana, Cuba

And for the last day about Cuba, the last picture of an oldtimer.

So how do you like “my” Cuba? Did I miss something important?

If you haven’t been to Cuba yet, but think about visiting it, I have one advice for you – go there as soon as it possible! It’s a country that changes a lot! I wouldn’t be surprised if in 5 years Cuba will be totally different, let’s hope it won’t lose its charm…

Na zako艅czenie miesi膮ca o Kubie, ostatnie zdj臋cie starego samochodu.

Miejmy nadziej臋, 偶e zmiany nie odbior膮 jej uroku…

Cuba – Che

Souvenirs with "Che", Havana, Cuba
Souvenirs with “Che”, Havana, Cuba

I’m sure everyone knows the popular image of Che Guevara, even without knowing his name. I think many people may think it’s Fidel Castro. Do you agree with me?

In Cuba, you’ll find thousands different souvenirs with the image of Che, but when you buy something, be sure you know who he was.

__________________________________________________________

Jestem pewna ka偶dy kojarzy podobizn臋 Che Guevara, ale wydaje mi si臋, 偶e wiele os贸b nie zna jego nazwiska, albo my艣li 偶e to Fidel Castro. Zgadzacie si臋 ze mn膮?

Cuba – Books

Books in Havana, Cuba
Books in Havana, Cuba

While walking in Old Havana, you’ll also find many second-hand books. It’s not difficult to figure out what’s the topic of many of them – revolution! You’ll find also some titles in English.

__________________________________________________________

Nie trudno zgadn膮膰 co jest g艂贸wnym tematem ksi膮偶ek – rewolucja! 馃檪 Mo偶na znale藕膰 te偶 kilka tytu艂贸w po angielsku.

Cuba – Revolution

Revolution Square, Havana, Cuba

The Cuban Revolution took place in years 1953 – 1959 and was initiated by Fidel Castro against the President Fulgencio Batista.
I’ll not write much about it, because it’s a travel not political blog. But I have to mention it, because Cuba without its revolution and Castro wouldn’t be the same place as it is now. And memories of revolution, Fidel Castro or Che Guevara and still vivid.

This picture was taken at the very characteristic Revolution Square (Plaza de la Revolucion) in Havana.

Co wi臋cej odwiedzaj膮c Kub臋 艂atwo zauwa偶y膰, 偶e temat rewolucji jest ci膮gle 偶ywy.

Cuba – Souvenirs

Souvenirs, Havana, Cuba
Souvenirs, Havana, Cuba

As colorful is Cuba, as colorful souvenirs you’ll find there! Of course there are many kitschy items, as well as many connected with revolution. I liked some paintings, especially ones showing Old Town with vintage cars.

When you visited Cuba, did you buy any souvenirs? Or maybe Cuba is still on your list, do you have any items you’d like to buy there (maybe a cigar)?

__________________________________________________________

Mi bardzo si臋 spodoba艂y obrazki, szczeg贸lnie przedstawiaj膮ce stare miasto Hawany i charakterystyczne samochody.

Je偶eli zwiedzali艣cie ju偶 Kub臋, przywie藕li艣cie jakie艣 pami膮tki?

Cuba – Mailbox

Old mailbox, Havana, Cuba

Do you know what is in today’s picture? It’s an vintage mailbox from the 19th century on the wall of old building that can be found in Havana! Isn’t it beautiful or at least interesting?
But don’t try to use it for sending letters, it’s not in used any more.

__________________________________________________________

Wiecie co przedstawia dzisiejsze zdj臋cie? To stara skrzynka pocztowa, z XIX wieku, zawieszona na 艣cianie budynku w Hawanie.
