This place is located nearby the road that I showed you 3 days ago (04.11.2015). This is a version for pedestrians. I wanted to count stairs, but at some point I got lost… 😉
But where are whales, since the title of this post is “whale watching”? Well, they are somewhere in a water 😉 Actually, nearby Madeira, it’s possible to spot quite a few species of whales and dolphins. There are travel agencies that offer whale watching, so it’s not a bad idea to do this tour.
You may still wander what this picture has to do with whale watching. Places like this, are great view points to search for whales and dolphins. When we took our boat trip, a person from the company, with binoculars, was somewhere on the hill trying to spot animals, and then informed us where to go. So if you’re lucky, you may see some dolphins even from the hills. 🙂
If you’re planning to visit Madeira and do whale watching in a near future (till August 2016), a local company “Lobosonda – Madeira Whale Watching” offers you a discount for their tours, just send them email with a request and mention my blog “Traveling Rockhopper” and you’ll get a discount of 5 euro for adults, and 3 euro for children (2-15 years old).

Dziękuję i pozdrawiam! 🙂
So, did you spot whales in that boat trip?
Unfortunately, not. Maybe we have to try again 😉
Brak tłumów też zdecydowanie dodaje uroku 🙂
Very nice perspective and pov
Thank you! 🙂
Troppo bella questa inedita immagine…
Buon sabato
Thank you! 🙂
Have contemplated whale watching during many of our travels but just never pulled the trigger because tours are so expensive! I’d love to find a spot that I could get to myself and just sit and wait!
I agree, some places are very expensive, but it’s still possible to find cheaper options in less expensive countries 🙂
This is something I definitely want to do!
that’s a great fun! 🙂
I love that picture, beautiful post
Thank you, Leyla! 🙂
Have a great weekend!
Wieloryby mają w sobie coś niesamowitego. Pamiętam jak mieszkaliśmy na wyspie Hrisey (Islandia) i podczas wyprowadzania psa towarzyszyły nam morświny 😀 Niezapomniane przeżycie.
Wspaniale!
Hi Maja,
I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award! You can pick it up here: https://danicapiche.wordpress.com/2015/11/07/liebster-award-thank-you/
I hope that you’ll enjoy the award although there is no pressure to participate. 🙂
Thank you for nomination! 🙂
I think I’m not good in it, because I already got hmm 5 or more nominations and didn’t answer any of them, but I still have them in mind, so maybe one day…
But, still I really appreciate it!
Thank you and have a great weekend! 🙂
I am so excited about whale watching! The gray whale season has started in Southern California. A lot of grays have been spotted near the town I live. I can’t wait to take a look at them (from a viewpoint or boat).
Oh, you’re so lucky to live nearby! 🙂
Beautiful view point!
What shame we couldn´t see any whales!
Happy travel,
Nat
Thank you!
Have a nice day! 🙂
I would really love to visit Madeira, with or without whale watching. But it is terribly expensive to fly there from Cagliari…
Maybe one day, when you’re in south Europe 🙂
I’ve been whalewatching many times but can’t get enough of it … ever!
I agree, it’s always great!
I didn’t know you could see whales in Madeira, how cool!
it’s actually possible in many places, we just have to be lucky 😉
How cool !!! It must be very nice to see the whales !!!!
A meow of Bilbo
it’s a great experience! 🙂
I’ve always wanted to travel to Madeira and if we ever make it there I’ll have to keep that whale watching tour in mind. We recently were in the Azores and also looked for whales on the cliffside. We didn’t see any either but our friends who took a tour did so maybe that is the way to go!
oh, Azores, that’s also a great place, still want to go there 🙂
I have always wanted to go on a whale watching tour. Unfortunately when we do travel it is out of the season. So this is still on our list. If only it was so easy as walking down those stairs.
so true…
I think it’s the best when we see animals “by accident”, because when we try very hard often it doesn’t work so well…
I recently went to Iceland whale watching and sadly didn’t see any whales so thanks for the heads up on Madeira, I’ll add whale watching to my itinerary when go and hopefully will finally get to see some! 🙂
I also haven’t seen any whales yet, but different kinds of dolphins, they’re super cute, but still waiting for whales 😉
This is so cool!
Thanks! 🙂
Świetny widok! aż strach podchodzić do krawędzi:)
Dzięki za odwiedziny! 🙂
Beautiful photo – I’ve always found with whale watching that patience is always key!!
indeed, patience is very important here 😉 at the end they’re wild animals, they may come, they may not come…
This spot just got added to places I must visit! Too bad on not seeing any whales :(.
yeah, it’s a pity, but with animals you never know…
I saw many wild dolphins, but still waiting for whales 😉
Wow! I take this view 🙂 !
😀
Madeira is a little paradise but i had no time to take a look at the whales.
maybe next time?
So, did you get to see the whales, or not? When I went to Alaska I just saw their backs and I was very disappointed. I’ve never been to Madeira. It looks beautiful, I’d like to go.
I think, it’s much easier to spot dolphins than whales, I saw many dolphins but no whales so far…
I’ll be in Portugal this winter, and I am hoping to go dolphin and whale watching. I may make it to Madeira!
That’s great! Good luck and let me know about your impressions!
I do so want to go to Madeira…and seeing whales would be a bonus!
it’s a very nice island! 🙂
I’ve never considered Madeira but I’m going to google it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
you can check my other posts from November, because November on my blog is all about Madeira.
It’s a beautiful and diverse island 🙂
Thanks for the tip. I do like whales and didn’t realize Madeira had that opportunity.
there are quite a few places when we can observe whales, but we also need to be lucky… 😉
