Kayan people are Tibeto-Burman ethnic minority of Myanmar. Kayan consists of a few groups, e.g., Kayan Lahwi in which women wear the brass neck coils (today’s photo). And Kayan Lahwi is probably the most known ethnic group from Myanmar, sometimes called as “the long-neck women”.

Ludzie z plemienia Kayan, a przede wszystkim Kayan Lahwi, to najbardziej znana grupa etniczna z Mjanmy. Kobiety z Kayan Lahwi noszą na szyi miedziane obręcze stąd potocznie nie mówi się “Kayan Lahwi”, a “kobiety o długiej szyi”.
Another great/interesting portrait !!
Thank you! 🙂
Oh yes I had read about it in many places! Do you know at what age girls start wearing these ornaments?
I don’t know, but I think quite early, however it’s possible to remove them easily.
That looks extremely uncomfortable 🙁
indeed it’s heavy, however they can take it out any time
I was there and they tell me there it’s no so easy to take them off.Great photo
Thank you for showing us so much beauty.
