Indonesia – Rice terraces (Bali Island)

Rice is not only the basic food in Bali (or Indonesia) it’s also part of the culture. Unfortunately, it’s a hard job to plant or harvest rice. You can get an idea from today’s picture, but it’s only a tiny part of a rice terrace that has to be maintained…

It happens in different Asian countries that farmers give up working on rice because it’s so hard. They prefer to get a job with a regular salary. It’s not a surprised, on the other hand it’s said when these amazing rice terraces are disappearing because nobody takes care of them any more…

Niestety uprawa ryżu to skomplikowany i trudny proces.

  1. Yes, it is sad, especially when his rice terraces are eco-friendly and the palm oil plantations where they work are destroying ecosystems built up over millennia.

  3. I am glad some are still growing rice. But it is the same story here in Canada with our wonderful farm land. At one time farms were passed down from parents to children, but today’s youth do not want to be farmers.

Rzeczywiście wielka to szkoda.

  5. I love your photos. They make me reminiscent for the place I stayed in Jogjakarta. There was a rice paddy right outside my door and two or three weathered farmer tending it. So peaceful and exotic. Something I never expected to see.

  7. It’s sad to see old customs dying out, but I suppose it’s all part and parcel of progress. Your great photo tells us so much. ?
