Indonesia – Sumatra Island

Sumatra is the sixth largest island in the world and the largest island that belongs to Indonesia. I mean it belongs entirely to Indonesia, because Borneo and New Guinea islands are bigger, however they are shared between Indonesia and other countries.

The largest city in Sumatra is Medan, but it’s rather a place you can use as a starting point, or just its airport and skip the city. 馃槈 It’s said that nature is the greatest attraction of Sumatra. Indeed, you’ll find there jungles, volcanoes, lakes, and endemic species of orangutans, so-called Sumatran Orangutan.

On today’s picture you see a woman carrying her belongings in a traditional way. In the background are some of the typical houses that can be seen in Sumatra.

Sumatra to 6-ta pod wzgl臋dem wielko艣ci wyspa na 艣wiecie i najwi臋ksza nale偶膮ca do Indonezji. Borneo i Nowa Gwinea s膮 wi臋ksze, ale ich terytorium nale偶y tak偶e to innych pa艅stw, a Sumatra nale偶y tylko do Indonezji.

Medan to najwi臋ksze miasto na Sumatrze. Jednak nie jest specjalnie godne polecenia, a raczej warto je (albo tylko tutejsze lotnisko) wykorzysta膰 jako punkt startowy do zwiedzania wyspy. M贸wi si臋, 偶e najwi臋ksz膮 atrakcj膮 Sumatry jest jej przyroda. I rzeczywi艣cie, jest tu d偶ungla, wulkany, jeziora, a tak偶e endemiczny gatunek orangutana, tzw. orangutan sumatrza艅ski.

Na dzisiejszym zdj臋ciu widzicie kobiet臋 nios膮c膮 rzeczy (zakupy?) w tradycyjny spos贸b. A na drugim planie widoczny jest jeden z rodzaj贸w typowych sumatrza艅skich dom贸w.

I’m sure you look at these pictures differently, because it’s your country.

  1. A lot of interesting snippets in this that I didn’t know, including the fact that Sumatra has a unique species of orangutan. Love the detail in your photo. 馃槂
