Vietnam – Introduction

In September, I’ll you share with you my travel impressions from Vietnam.

Vietnam, officially the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, is one of the world’s five remaining one-party socialist states; the others are China, Cuba, Laos, and North Korea.

What’s interesting, Vietnam was part of Imperial China from 111 BC up to AD 939, after it become an independent country. Probably the conflict between the North and South Vietnam is the most known part of Vietnamese history. It’s so-called Vietnam War or the Second Indochina War supported by communist (e.g., China, Soviet Union) and anti-communist allies (e.g., USA). The War ended in 1975 with a victory of the North (communist part).

Wietnam, oficjalnie Socjalistyczna Republika Wietnamu, jest jednym z pięciu socjalistycznych państw; pozostałe to Chiny, Kuba, Laos i Korea Północna.

Co ciekawe, Wietnam był częścią Chin od 111 p.n.e. aż do 939 roku n.e., kiedy to uzyskał niepodległość.
Wydaje mi się, że najbardziej znaną z historii Wietnamu jest tzw. wojna wietnamska, czyli konflikt pomiędzy północnym (komunistycznym), a południowym Wietnamem. Północ była wspierana m.in. przez Chiny i Związek Radziecki, a południe m.in. przez USA. Konflikt zakończył się w 1975 roku zwycięstwem północnego Wietnamu.
