Lake Toba is a very popular destination, but mostly within Indonesian people. I had the impression that many foreigners never heard about this place. On the other hand, Indonesians were always impressed that I visited Lake Toba and often were saying that they dream about going there!
I liked the place, it was relatively calm (with almost no tourists) and I could relax. At the same time, I was disappointed with the condition of the lake. Lake Toba is nicely located and I believe that one day it was wonderful there. But currently it’s very polluted and definitely unhealthy for swimming. From one side people admire Lake Toba, on the other hand they throw trashes into water. And water looks like “don’t touch me if you want to stay healthy”…
Besides this, it’s possible to buy variety of fish by Lake Toba…

Jezioro Toba zdaje się być bardzo popularnym miejscem, jednak nie dla obcokrajowców. Wiele z napotkanych przeze mnie osób nie słyszała o tym miejscu. Z kolei Indonezyjczycy zawsze byli pod wrażeniem, że byłam nad jeziorem Toba, ponieważ wielu z nich o tym marzy!
Muszę przyznać, że miejsce było całkiem przyjemne, spokojne (prawie żadnych turystów) i można było wypocząć. Jednak byłam bardzo rozczarowana czystością jeziora. Jezioro Toba jest ślicznie ulokowane, z wyspą, górami dookoła i jestem pewna, że kiedyś całość stanowiła piękne miejsce. Niestety obecnie jezioro jest bardzo zanieczyszczone i nie należy w nim pływać. Co więcej woda jeziora zdaje się wręcz mówić “nie dotykaj mnie jeżeli chcesz pozostać zdrów”. Jeszcze bardziej zniechęca widok ludzi myjących w jeziorze kanistry od benzyny…
Mimo wszystko, okolica obfituje w sprzedawców ryb (jak na zdjęciu)…

That is so sad to learn because on my visit over a decade ago the lake was pristine.
I was there 4 years ago, I hope it’s not so much worse right now…

Woda w świętej Gandze też nie zachęca do kąpieli, ale widziała kilku białych śmiałków, którzy nie mieli z oporów. W Tobie też pewnie by chętnie zanurkowali…

Lake Toba sounds like a fascinating place. I just did a quick online search and it sounds like it’s really out of the way. But worth the trip, no?
I’m a bit negative about its cleanness, but it’s still a nice area 🙂
It is sad that so many waterways, lakes and oceans are so polluted.. The Lake sounds a nice location..

I agree, it’s very sad that so many water courses and beautiful lakes have become polluted. Industry, agricultural practices, modern lifestyles and rising populations are all to blame. Perhaps, one day, things will change; we can only live in hope. Toba is such a magnificent lake to be polluted this way.

It is sad that the beautiful lake is littered and made unsafe to swim. I don’t know why, but some people think that dumping trash in the water is better than leaving it on the ground somewhere. Sort of, it is hidden.
