Turkey – Final impression

Pomegranate, Turkey
Pomegranate, Turkey

The last day of March brings us to the last post about Turkey.
My traditional question – how did you like it?
What’s your favorite place in Turkey? Or maybe, I missed something important?

Today, I also want to mention two more things. First, when you’re in Turkey eat lots of fruits. When we’re there in December, in many places people were selling oranges. We saw trees full of oranges, mandarins, grapefruits, pomegranates, khaki etc. Colorful, delicious and healthy!

So to keep balance, I also have to mention something unhealthy, however it maybe the case only in winter… The smog level in many places in Turkey was extremely high, well, much too high than it’s considered as healthy in Europe. So air pollution is really a problem there, so if you have asthma etc., better don’t go to Turkey in winter. When we came back home, we checked air pollution in different places around the world, and actually Turkey was worse than Beijing! (Here you can compare air pollution in different countries: http://aqicn.org) So just to be aware, it may be not the best holiday-place for everyone…

Tradycyjnie, ostatni dzie艅 miesi膮ca ko艅czy kolejn膮 seri臋 post贸w, w marcu to by艂a Turcja.
I jak zawsze jestem ciekawa Waszych wra偶e艅?
Macie swoje ulubione miejsce w Turcji?

Dzisiaj jeszcze chcia艂am wspomnie膰 o dw贸ch rzeczach, kt贸re utkwi艂y nam w pami臋ci po odwiedzeniu Turcji. Pierwsz膮 z nich s膮 owoce. 馃檪 Przynajmniej w grudniu, drzewa s膮 bogato obsypane pomara艅czami, mandarynkami, grejpfrutami, granatami, itp. Nic, tylko kupowa膰 艣wie偶e owoce i si臋 nimi zajada膰!

A dla zachowania r贸wnowagi, teraz b臋dzie aspekt niezdrowy. Ot贸偶, b臋d膮c w Turcji w grudniu, zaskoczy艂 nas poziom smogu. Jest niesamowicie wysoki, znacznie wy偶szy ni偶 w s艂ynnym Pekinie! Je偶eli chcecie por贸wna膰 zanieczyszczenie powietrza w r贸偶nych miejscach, polecam stronk臋 http://aqicn.org – jest te偶 wersja polskoj臋zyczna.

Turkey – Aphrodisias

Aphrodisias, Turkey
Aphrodisias, Turkey

Aphrodisias is another ancient site in Turkey and maybe it’s even my favorite one. It’s a bit far from other attractions, and it’s not really famous, neither crowded. But it’s one of the most impressive sites! Even in Wikipedia you find information that “As an archaeological site, it contains some of the most impressive Roman ruins in Turkey, and has perhaps offers a greater value than Ephesus.” And I totally agree! We’re really surprised how big Aphrodisias is and how many buildings, columns are still so well preserved! I can just highly recommend you to go there when you’re in Turkey! And enjoy ancient world!

Afrodyzja to kolejne staro偶ytne miasto znajduj膮ce si臋 na terenie Turcji. Pozostaje mi tylko Was bardzo zach臋ci膰 do odwiedzenia Afrodyzji.

Turkey – Owl in Laodikya

Owl in Laodikya, Turkey
Owl in Laodikya, Turkey

Laodikya brought us one more cute surprise – we saw there an owl sitting on ancient column. Maybe some noise woke it up, because the owl was slowly opening its eyes and looking around what’s going on. Owl was sitting high enough so nobody could bother it and we’re really enjoying it’s views.

__________________________________________________________

W pewnym momencie sowa si臋 obudzi艂a i z zaciekawieniem obraca艂a g艂ow臋 we wszystkie strony, a my baczni si臋 jej przygl膮dali艣my.

Turkey – Laodikya

Laodikya is one the ancient sites we visited and it really surprised us. It’s not very famous, but very beautiful! When I was planning our trip, Laodikya was on our way from Pamukkale, we decided to stop there, but didn’t have too much expectations like e.g., with Ephesus. And we’re nicely surprised, the site is really worth visiting. And it’s not crowded at all.

Laodikya to kolejne staro偶ytne miasto, kt贸re odwiedzili艣my b臋d膮c w Turcji, i kt贸re r贸wnie偶 nas mi艂o zaskoczy艂o.
Laodikya znajduje si臋 w pobli偶u Pamukkale, wi臋c zajrzycie tam przy okazji odwiedzania s艂ynnych taras贸w!

Turkey – Akyaka

Akyaka, Turkey
Akyaka, Turkey

Akyaka may not be the typical touristic destination, but when you travel along the coast, e.g., from Izmir to Antalya, you’ll find on your way many nice places such as Akyaka.
We stayed in Akyaka by accident. We’re searching for a nice place, surrounded by nature, close to the sea, and about 25 km north of Marmaris. Our goal was to visit some islands by ferry (i.e., Rhodes). There are ferries from Marmaris, but Marmaris seemed too crowded to us. And Akyaka was a perfect location. It has a history going back to over 400 BC, rock-cut tombs, and houses and hotels of very distinct architecture (e.g., wooden balconies with lovely handcrafted decorations).

We stayed in the Tatil Apart Hotel which is located by a lovely river and many wild geese. The Tatil Apart Hotels offers nice apartments for bigger parties. The kitchens of these apartments have everything you need for self-catering stay.
Driving up the nearby mountain road gives you perfect view points over the valley watching sunsets. For lovely sunrises we just had to step outside our hotel.

__________________________________________________________

Szukali艣my spokojnego miejsca w bliskiej odleg艂o艣ci od Marmaris. Chcieli艣my wybra膰 si臋 na Rodos, a z Marmaris odp艂ywaj膮 promy. Marmaris wyda艂o nam si臋 zbyt zat艂oczone, wi臋c wyb贸r pad艂 na Akyaka.
Nocleg sp臋dzili艣my w Tatil Apart Hotel, kt贸ry oferuje wygodne pokoje/apartamenty z kuchni膮. Dodatkowo, 偶ona w艂a艣ciciela jest Polk膮! I to pewnie jeden z nielicznych hoteli w Turcji, kt贸ry posiada polsk膮 wersj臋 strony internetowej.

Turkey – Tombs in Kaunos

Tombs in Kaunos, Turkey
Tombs in Kaunos, Turkey

Kaunos is famous from its ancient site, however there is one more attraction. Just on the short way to Kaunos, you’ll see amazing tombs cut from rocks. While planning my trip, I was watching pictures of these tombs and really wanted to see them in real. I found many different coordinates, and got a bit confused where they are. But it’s actually very easy to find them! When you take a ferry from Dalyan, you’ll see tombs on your right while walking to Kaunos. If you go to Kaunos by car, just walk or drive to the ferry place, and you’ll easily find them.
Maybe someone’ll say that rocks are destroyed, but still they’re really impressive, especially when you start thinking how difficult it was to build them.

__________________________________________________________

Mo偶e znajdzie si臋 kto艣, kto powie, 偶e w ten spos贸b ska艂y zosta艂y zniszczone, jednak te grobowce robi膮 wra偶enie!

Turkey – Squirrel

Squirrel in Kaunos, Turkey
Squirrel in Kaunos, Turkey

Kaunos covers actually quite a big area. Besides ruins, we saw also nice animals, like a donkey (yesterday photo) or squirrel (today’s picture). It was quite easy to spot both of them, since their colors are much different from the colors of stones. Donkeys were very friendly, and happy when we pet them. Squirrels like squirrels, don’t spend so much time in a one place, fortunately I managed to take a picture of one of them.

__________________________________________________________

Kaunos zajmuje bardzo du偶膮 powierzchni臋 i mo偶na tam sp臋dzi膰 wiele godzin, spaceruj膮c i “odkrywaj膮c” kolejne ruiny. Co wi臋cej, w Kaunos spotkacie te偶 r贸偶ne zwierzaki.

Turkey – Kaunos

Donkey in Kaunos, Turkey
Donkey in Kaunos, Turkey

Kaunos is another ancient site we visited in December. I think it’s quite famous, however it may be a challenge to get there. You can drive there along the lake K枚yce臒iz (yesterday’s post). Or you can take a small ferry (only for passengers) from Dalyan and then walk to the ruins. Both ways are charming, but it’s not possible to combine them, so if you want to go there by car, you also have to drive back. If you want to take a boat, you have to walk, then walk back and take a ferry back to the town Dalyan.

__________________________________________________________

Kaunos to kolejne staro偶ytne miasto, kt贸re zwiedzili艣my w grudniu. Wydaje mi si臋, 偶e miejsce jest do艣膰 znane, jednak wyprawa do Kaunos mo偶e by膰 przygod膮. 馃槈 Do ruin Kaunos mo偶na dojecha膰 samochodem, wzd艂u偶 jeziora K枚yce臒iz (wczorajszy post) albo przyp艂yn膮膰 艂贸dk膮 z miasta Dalyan, a nast臋pnie przespacerowa膰 si臋. Obie trasy s膮 urokliwe, jednak nie mo偶na ich po艂膮czy膰. Je偶eli zdecydujecie si臋 na samoch贸d, trzeba tak偶e wr贸ci膰 t膮 sam膮 drog膮. Je偶eli pop艂yniecie z Dalyan, trzeba i艣膰 pieszo do Kaunos (oko艂o 2km), wr贸ci膰 pieszo i zn贸w pop艂yn膮膰.

Turkey – Lake K枚yce臒iz

Lake K枚yce臒iz, Turkey
Lake K枚yce臒iz, Turkey

One early morning we’re driving to see the ancient ruins of Kaunos and then we had a short break by the Lake K枚yce臒iz. Maybe it’s just one of these “nothing special” places, but shortly after sunrise nature’s beauty always impresses us. And nature in Turkey is also stunning.
I still think, that Turkey for many is just sea and beach, plus Istanbul or Pamukkale, Cappadocia… I loved all ancient sites, but nature with mountains etc. is amazing as well, and I’m sure while visiting turkey you can easily find many hidden gems!

__________________________________________________________

Wczesnym porankiem wybrali艣my si臋 do Kaunos aby zwiedza膰 ruiny tego staro偶ytnego miasta. Mo偶e to jedno z tych 鈥瀦wyczajnych鈥 miejsc, jednak natura obserwowana tu偶 po wschodzie s艂o艅ca zawsze zachwyca.
Wydaje mi si臋, 偶e dla wielu Turcja to synonim pla偶y i morza.

Turkey – Becin Castle

Becin Castle, Turkey
Becin Castle, Turkey

The Becin Castle we found and visited by accident. While driving from Bodrum to Marmaris, we found information about a castle nearby Milas, and since we have some time, we decided to check it out. And it was a very nice discovery! The castle covers quite a big area. You may call it just a huge ruin, but it’s a great place for a short break.

__________________________________________________________

Zamek Becin nie by艂 w naszych planach. Natrafili艣my na niego jad膮c z Bodrum do Marmaris.
