Leeds Castle is a very nice castle with a large garden, located in Kent, close to the village of Leeds.
The castle was built in 1119.
It’s on islands in a lake, so you can spend there a very relaxing time.

England – Leeds that is NOT Leeds
I guess, in each country you can find many towns having the same name. Sometimes it may be confusing, especially for tourists when they want to visit something particular.
In England, there are at least two Leeds;
one in Yorkshire (the known one)
and the other one in Kent (with the castle).
I’ll focus on the Leeds Castle (Kent) that is not a big Leeds in Yorkshire. π
England – Study in Oxford
Oxford is famous for the University of Oxford.
Have you ever thought about studying there?
Well, it sounds prestigious, but it’s not impossible! If you want to, you just have to try
England – Oxford
Oxford is obviously a university city.
It’s also known as the “City of Dreaming Spires” because of a poet Matthew Arnold.
I can only write, it’s a place worth visiting, and you can spend there a lovely day exploring ancient and modern areas of Oxford. So don’t miss it! π
England – Roman & Modern Baths
The Roman Baths are situated in the centre of Bath next to the Abbey. It’s not possible to swim there. But, there is also a spa in Bath, where you can enjoy natural thermal waters.
Apparently, the Roman Baths are one of the most visited heritage attractions in the United Kingdom.
You can easily combine your trip with Stonehenge or London.
England – Bath
If you’ve heard or visited Bath, you know it’s a lovely, historical city.
If you’ve never heard about Bath, I want to encourage to go there one day! You will not regret! π
Bath is a city known for its baths built by Romans somewhere around 65 AD. But, you’ll find here also other attractions, e.g., the Abbey or Herschel Museum of Astronomy.
England – White Cliffs of Dover
From Dover, you can easily visit beautiful White Cliffs.
I was there on a cloudy day and my pictures don’t look so spectacular,
but it’s a really lovely area!
England – Dover
If you want to go to England from continental Europe, you have to cross the English Channel;
you can fly over it;
you can go by train, via tunnel underneath;
or you can take a ferry.
If you choose the last option, you may end up in Dover.
I’d like to encourage you, to not treat Dover just as an entry point to the United Kingdom. Visit the town, the castle and nearby cliffs!
England – York Cathedral
York has many tourist attractions, but it’s the most famous for the York Cathedral, that’s actually called York Minster, i.e., the Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter.
If you have a chance, definitely go to York in England.
It’s a lovely city!
England – York
York is a historical city located in Yorkshire, England.
It was founded by the Romans in 71 AD.
I’m guessing, that New York City in the USA is more known that York in the UK; but it’s good to be aware that New York got its name in honor of the Duke of York, later King James II of England.
England – Stonehenge
I remember a long time ago, reading about Stonehenge.
And somehow I thought Stonehenge doesn’t exist any more.
Well, it sounded so extraordinary, and children may easily get a wrong impression.
Anyway, I was quite fascinated by the place and thought it would be amazing to see it!
And, one day, I convinced 2 of my friends to go there, and a child’s dream came true. π
Stonehenge, a ring of standing stones, was probably constructed around 2,500 BC. It’s still not clear who built it, when, and why.
Check the English Heritage website for more information.
England – Fish and Chips
Fish and chips is a very popular dish in England,
however, it doesn’t have a very long history in the UK, since about 1860s.
For me, it was just a right dish to try in the UK. π
p.s. I know, I’m showing you a picture of a bit different dish than “fish & chips”. π
England – Pubs
When you’re in England, or in general in the United Kingdom, you have to go to the “public house”, i.e. pub.
Go to pub, order beer, ale or cider and fish & chips and enjoy the atmosphere. π
Of course, you can buy whatever you like; that just sounds to me like a right dish. π
England – Squirrels
Somehow, I have an impression there are lots of squirrels in the UK.
There are mostly grey squirrels, however red ones you can also find.
I have many (sharp π ) pictures of grey squirrels from the UK, but I decided to show you this unsharp one, definitely not the best photo, but I find it funny.
I hope you don’t mind its quality. π
England – Red Telephone Box
Is there a more famous “symbol” of the United Kingdom than a red telephone box.
OK, I could probably list a few othersβ¦
Anyway, I somehow like it a lot. I’ve seen the red boxes also in other countries that have “some British connection” e.g., in Malta.
England – The City of London
Have you heard that London is actually not the same as the City of London?
If you are curios what the City of London is, check youtube, there are some interesting short movies explaining it.
I don’t want to talk about London this month.
London is such a unique and big city, so I’ll have one day a separate month only about London.
Stay tuned. π
England – London
London is the capital and largest city in England and the United Kingdom.
The city was founded by the Romans.
England – Best Time for Traveling
To continue my post from yesterday; I had a chance to visit different parts of the United Kingdom during all seasons. Each time may be charming, each time may be dark and rainy.
My favorite seasons for visiting the United Kingdom is spring or early autumn, but some places may be more convenient during summer.
England – Rainy Country
England has a maritime climate with relatively mild temperatures, i.e., it’s usually not hot in summer, neither very cold in winter. But, it may rain a lot.
The pictures I show you, were mostly taken in January and a few in December. Some of them may look like sunny, summer photos, but mostly like autumn cloudy ones. Well, it’s like it isβ¦ π
England – Introduction
Welcome to England!
Yes, that’s correct, this month is not going to be about the entire country i.e., the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, but “only” about England – the country in the country.
There are so many differences between all countries, islands etc. within the United Kingdom, so I decided to have a separate month about each of them that I’ve visited.
