Traveling Rockhopper

Schiermonnikoog, it’s an another “difficult” name of the Frisian Island. 🙂 Yeah, the Dutch language is not the easiest to pronounce correctly, but if you learn some basics, you’ll find it’s kind of cute. 🙂

Schiermonnikoog, to kolejna “skomplikowana” nazwa Fryzyjskiej wyspy. 🙂 Cóż, język holenderski (a raczej jego wymowa) do najprostszych nie należy. Jednak wiele osób potwierdza, że po nauczeniu się podstaw holenderskiego, język wydaje się dość uroczy.

Terschelling, it’s the name of one of the West Frisian Islands. It’s anther lovely island, that you can easily discover by bike. Well, basically each place in the Netherlands can be easily visited by bike.

Terschelling to nazwa jednej z Fryzyjskich Wysp. To kolejne urocze miejsce, które łatwo zwiedzić na rowerze. Właściwie, to każde miejsce w Holandii łatwo zwiedzić na dwóch kółkach.

I guess, when you plan your trip to the Netherlands, you don’t really think about swimming in the sea. Well, it’s possible but the water of the North Sea is not the warmest one. 😉
It doesn’t mean, it’s not worthy to go to the coast! There are many lovely places and large, sandy beaches, and you can often meet cute oystercatchers (Do you remember them from my previous pictures – Galapagos 29th of May 2015, Falklands 15th of April 2015)!

Wydaje mi się, że mało kto planując wycieczkę do Holandii, rozważa możliwość popływania w morzu. Morze Północne do najcieplejszych nie należy, ale ma wiele uroku. Poza tym często można spotkać zabawne ostrygojady, pamiętacie je z moich wcześniejszych zdjęć – Galapagos 29 maj 2015, Falklandy 15 kwiecień 2015?

Five of Dutch Islands are accesible by ferries. On the 8th of August you saw one picture from Texel, the other islands are called: Vlieland, Terschelling, Schiermonnikoog, and Ameland that is on today’s photo.

I visited all of them. Each island is very nice, however I prefer the smaller ones.

Na 5 wysepek holenderskich można łatwo się dostać promem. 8 sierpnia, pokazałam Wam zdjęcie z wyspy Texel, a dzisiaj wyspa Ameland. Pozstałe 3 to: Vlieland, Terschelling, Schiermonnikoog.

Udało mi się odwiedzić te wszystkie wysepki i każda z nich jest urocza, choć najbardziej mi się podobały te mniejsze, na które nie można dopłynąć z własnym autem.

As I’ve mentioned before, it’s very likely to see many cats on Dutch streets. This super cute kitty was my favorite neighbor, we called her “Drama Queen”. 🙂 Isn’t she pretty as a queen?

p.s. Her voice is a bit squeaky, so “Drama” comes from her funny meowing… 😉

Jak już wcześniej wspomniałam, bardzo łatwo jest spotkać urocze kociaki na holenderskich ulicach. Kicia ze zdjęcia była moją ulubioną sąsiadką. Zawsze do mnie podbiegała miaucząc i prosząc o głaskanie.

Spotykałyśmy się prawie za każdym razem w drodze po zakupy, więc zaczęłam zawsze zabierać ze sobą aparat fotograficzny. 🙂 Kicia ma setki zdjęć… 😀

At the coast or on islands it’s likely to encounter a seal. Sometimes they need help. If so, they’re taken to the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre in Pieterburen. It’s a nice place to visit, to learn about seals and to observe these cute animals.

This picture was taken through the glass of the pool with seals. They’re swimming to the glass and observing people, or we’re observing them. 😉

Foki także można spotkać w Holandii, a szczególnie w Fokarium Pieterburen. Gdy znaleziona na plaży foka potrzebuje pomocy, to jest zabierana do Pieterburen. Po wyleczeniu jest ona wypuszczane do morza. To podobny ośrodek, jak u nas w Helu, ale w Pieterburen nie ma fok, które na stałe tam mieszkają.

To zdjęcie zostało zrobione przez szybę jednego z dużych basenów. Foki podpływały do szyby i przyglądały się ludziom, a my im. 🙂

The Netherlands is a highly populated European country, but it’s still easy to find there many green fields. And where is grass, you will find animals – mostly cows, horses, and sheep. While going by train, I was often wondering, are there more cows or horses. I guess, there are more cows, but it’s not so obvious!

W Holandii, mimo iż to tak bardzo zaludniony kraj, można znaleźć wiele zielonej przestrzeni. Niekoniecznie lasy, ale dużo łąk. A tam gdzie jest trawa są często zwierzaki – przede wszystkim krowy, owce i konie. Często podczas jazdy pociągiem, zastanawiałam się czy jest tam więcej krów czy koni – pewnie jest więcej krów, ale to wcale nie takie oczywiste!

Today’s picture presents another Dutch castle. This one is located at the Dutch-German boarder and it’s called Huis Bergh. It’s also a nice castle. I think it’s a bit smaller and less touristic than Kasteel de Haar.

Dzisiaj widzimy kolejny zamek, nazywa się Huis Bergh. Znajduje się on tuż przy granicy holendersko-niemieckiej. To także urocze miejsce, a zamek jest chyba trochę mniejszy od Kasteel de Haar i zagląda do niego mniej turystów.

Kasteel de Haar was the first castle I visited in the Netherlands, and I’ve reminisced about it for a long time. I think it’s beautiful. 🙂

The castle is nearby Utrecht, but you can’t get there by train, you have to take a bus. I have to add here, that traveling by train in the Netherlands is very convenient, but by bus it’s a bit worse. Especially, when you travel on Sunday taking a bus is always problematic. I’d say don’t try to travel on Sunday by bus in the Netherlands, on a week day it’s usually much easier.

Kasteel de Haar to pierwszy zamek, który zwiedziłam w Holandii, i na długo pozostał w mojej pamięci. Uważam, że jest uroczy i nie bez powody gości wiele festiwali.

Zamek znajduje się w pobliżu miejscowości Utrecht, jednak nie można do niego dojechać pociągiem, trzeba przesiąść się na autobus. Muszę tutaj podkreślić, że podróżowanie pociągiem po Holandii jest bardzo wygodne, ale autobusem już trochę mniej. Szczególnie nie polecam autobusów w niedzielę! W pozostałe dni tygodnia jest zdecydowanie łatwiej!

When I was visiting the Netherlands, I found many lovely towns and as long as the weather was nice I always enjoyed the view of brick houses, canals and … windmills. 🙂

This picture was taken in Weesp. It’s not the main tourist attraction, but it has its charm.

Podróżując po Holandii, natrafiłam na wiele uroczych miasteczek. A jeżeli tylko pogoda dopisuje to chyba wszędzie jest pięknie. Widok domków z cegły nad kanałami jest uroczy. Do tego często znajdzie się w pobliżu wiatrak, jak na zdjęciu w miejscowości Weesp. Weesp raczej nie jest typową holenderską atrakcją turystyczną, ale można tu się wybrać na bardzo miły spacer.

Today you can see another windmill, but a bit unusual. 😉 Isn’t it funny? I found it while cycling in Texel Island.

Texel is the largest Dutch island, and probably the easiest to reach from Amsterdam. There are a few more islands that belong to the Netherlands, and I can highly recommend to visit at least one of them.

The Netherlands also has islands in the Caribbean, but it’s a different topic, let’s stay for a while in Europe. 🙂

Na dzisiejszym zdjęciu widoczny jest kolejny wiatrak. To chyba jedyny w swoim rodzaju wiatrak. Znalazłam go podczas rowerowej wycieczki po wyspie Texel.

Texel, to największa wyspa holenderska i chyba też najłatwiej się tam dostać z Amsterdamu.

Holandia ma kilka uroczych wysepek na Morzy Północnym i bardzo polecam odwiedzenie chociażby jednej z nich!

Do Holandii (a właściwie Królestwa Niderlandów) należy też 6 wysepek na Karaibach, ale to trochę inna historia; póki co zostańmy w Europie. 🙂

The Netherlands is full of windmills. Some of them are in use, in the other ones are museums or even houses. They are an important and characteristic part of the Dutch landscape. Personally, I think they’re charming, especially “in wild”, together with water, grass, flowers, and cows or sheep. 🙂 What do you think about windmills?

Wiatraki, są nierozłącznym elementem holenderskiego krajobrazu. Niektóre z nich zostały nawet przekształcone w domy, czyż nie byłoby wyjątkowo mieszkać w wiatraku?

Jeżeli chcecie zobaczyć wiele wiatraków bardzo polecam wycieczkę do Kinderdijk (tam zostało zrobione to zdjęcie), albo do Zaanse Schans.

Cycling is an extremely convenient way of transportation in the Netherlands. There are many bicycle paths, and the country is quite flat that makes cycling relatively easy. You just have to get use to that in the cities there are always many cyclists around you. All Dutch people love cycling and have at least one bicycle.

Jazda na rowerze jest najlepszą formą transportu w Holandii. Dzięki ogromnej ilości ścieżek rowerowych podróżuje się łatwo i bezpiecznie, a płaskość terenu jest tu dodatkową zaletą. Tylko w miastach, szczególnie w godzinach szczytu, trzeba się przyzwyczaić, że dookoła nas są setki rowerzystów.

There are a few products that are associated with the Netherlands, i.e., windmills, cheese, water, canals, van Gogh (do you know how to pronounce his name correctly?), bicycles, orange color (or “Oranjes”), buttermilk and herring (really!) and of course flowers. In spring time, you can cycle along tulip fields, or just visit the famous Keukenhof garden, that is full of colorful flowers.

Jakie macie skojarzenia z Holandią? Myślę, że każdy mógłby wymienić kilka rzeczy, jak np. wiatraki, ser, woda, rowery, może maślanka i śledź, a na pewno kwiaty. Wiosną, warto wybrać się na przejażdżkę rowerem wzdłuż pól tulipanów albo odwiedzić ogród Keukenhof.

Do you like cats? If so, you can easily find many of them on the streets. They aren’t stray cats, they have owners. They just spend all days outside. And many of them like to play. 🙂

Lubicie koty? Jeżeli tak, to jest duża szansa, że wiele ich spotkacie spacerując po holenderskich ulicach. To nie są bezdomne koty, mają właścicieli i często noszą obroże, po prostu dnie spędzają na świeżym powietrzu. A, one często lubią się bawić z turystami. 😉

Na zdjęciu jeden z moich byłych sąsiadów. 🙂

p.s. Jeżeli nie lubicie kotów, to pewnie nawet nie zauważycie ich obecności, nie są groźne. 😉

People, in general, tend to complain about almost everything, but the weather is one of the easiest topics. 😉 In the Netherlands I’ve learnt that sooner or later it’s going to rain, everyday… So I was enjoying each second of sunshine! 🙂

I have to admit there are also some sunny days and umbrella may be not the best solution when the wind is very strong.

Anyway, I find these umbrellas cute. They are blue and withe like traditional porcelain, with typical Dutch patterns.

Ludzie zawsze znajdą jakiś powód do narzekań, a pogoda jest chyba jednym z najłatwiejszych tematów. Mieszkając w Holandii, nauczyłam się, że prędzej czy później będzie padać, codziennie… Więc trzeba się cieszyć każdym promykiem słońca! 🙂

Muszę przyznać, że codziennie nie padało, i doświadczyłam wiele słonecznych dni. A gdy pada, i wieje silny wiatr, to parasolka nie jest dobrym pomysłem…

W każdym razie, parasolki ze zdjęcia wydały mi się urocze, ze względu na typowe holenderskie motywy.

While being in the Netherlands you have to try Dutch cheese.
There are a few famous cheese-towns in the Netherlands and cheese is delicious. 🙂

Będąc w Holandii, koniecznie trzeba spróbować pyszny, holenderski ser.
Kilka miast w Holandii jest znanych z produkcji sera. Do tego tematu wrócę za kilka dni!

A tymczasem kilka słów o dzisiejszym zdjęciu. Choć za bardzo tego nie widać, zostało ono wykonane uroczym mieście Delft, które słynie z charakterystycznej niebiesko-białej porcelany. Warto odwiedzić Delft, nawet tego samego dnia co Hagę, ponieważ oba miasta graniczą ze sobą i dojazd z jednego do drugiego jest bardzo łatwy.

This month I’ll show you the Netherlands. It’s a small European country, where I was lucky to live for 3 years. During that time, I visited many lovely towns, castles, islands, and of course windmills. 🙂

So what’s the name of this country – Holland or the Netherlands?
Probably the best way to understand it, is to watch this great, short video.
To make the story short – it’s the Netherlands ! 😉 However, there are 2 provinces called “South Holland” and “North Holland”, they’re highly populated with important cities like Amsterdam. So no wonder that many people in the Netherlands say that they live in Holland…

I didn’t live in Holland, I lived in the Netherlands. 🙂

W tym miesiącu chciałabym pokazać Wam zdjęcia z Holandii. To małe europejskie państwo, w którym mieszkałam przez 3 lata. W tym czasie, miałam wiele okazji do zwiedzania uroczych holenderskich miasteczek, zamków, wysepek i oczywiście wiatraków. 🙂

Mam nadzieję, że zdjęcia się Wam spodobają, bo Holandia jest uroczym państwem i ma do zaoferowania znacznie więcej niż tylko Amsterdam.

To end this month about Argentina, I want to show you the last picture from Argentine Patagonia. I hope you like this dog and Patagonia, and maybe one day you’ll visit these beautiful places, and at least one glacier! 🙂

Maybe you realized, that I didn’t mention yerba mate (which is a kind of tea). I’ll talk about it while showing you my daily impressions of Uruguay. Even Argentines say they don’t drink it as much mate as people in Uruguay.

Na zakończenie miesiąca poświęconemu Argentynie chciałam Wam pokazać jeszcze jedno zdjęcie z Patagonii. Mam nadzieję, że piesek Wam się spodobał, a co ważniejsze – Patagonia. Może któregoś dnia odwiedzicie te urocze miejsca i przynajmniej jeden z lodowców? 🙂

I jeszcze jedno, tym razem nie wspomniałam nic o yerba mate, ale nadrobię to przy okazji pokazywania zdjęć z Urugwaju. Nawet Argentyńczycy uważają, że w Urugwaju najwięcej się pije mate.

When you take a boat trip you may actually try this “blue whipped cream”. Sometimes they serve drinks with ice from the glaciers. 🙂

Czy ten lodowiec nie wygląda jak bita śmietana, albo przynajmniej coś jadalnego?

Gdy wybierzecie się na rejs w okolicach lodowców, często jest możliwość posmakowania tej “bitej śmietany” w postaci kostek lodu w napoju. 🙂
